It is a real crime.
Stealing Music Online Is The Same Thing As Stealing A CD from a store.
Says the guy who joined a Music forum that specializes in that exact thing! :P
rofl..
Well, keep in mind, there is usually a lot more than just 24 songs that a person would have downloaded. 24 are the only ones that have a case and records to support a trial within the time frame after the incident that is prosecutable. Not to mention, they probably didn't go into every song that was found unexplained. Just a few to prove a crime was committed. Your best bet, is to buy any tracks that are purchasable if possible. Its possible they would sue over demos and such, but not likely, as most of those are not for profit yet.
I am not sure of the time frame though, I think it has to be filed within 1-5 years. I forget the exact number.
.
Yeah, ok - so it's a crime. That's not in dispute.
I agree that there are far worse crimes that need to be penalised; but I'd hate to think of anyone leeching songs and never purchasing any music.
I know I contribute to this forum, but I'd expect that anyone that d/ls also purchases if they like it and its available to be purchased in their area (ie: I can't purchase Japan bonus tracks here, but I will buy the rest of the album if I listen to it more than twice).
I sincerely hope that people on this board (and all the others) don't expect that we're not impacting the industry - especially the lower budget or new artists (or artists 'on the way out') as without sales that artist or others in their genre won't get continued funding from the multi-billion-dollar industry.
Having said that, I'm no angel and I know it. But I try to be fair.
Soo... We are all making crimes all the day...
We are all the day downloading and sharing music under copy rights!
So we can go to the jail as well!
lol
